Oklahoma City Thunder – NBA
FIRST FULL TIME NBA SPORTS SCIENTIST
The Thunder approached Sporting Health Group during the 2010-11 season to recruit a new role, the first full time Sports Scientist to work within an NBA team. After an extensive global search we connected them with a Sports Scientist from British Cycling, a team trail blazing this speciality. Since this appointment most NBA teams now have a full time Sports Scientist within their rosta. Sporting Health Group went on to recruit several more roles for the Thunder.

Cleveland Cavaliers – NBA
FIRST NBA PERFORMANCE DIRECTOR
The Cavs approached Sporting Health Group ahead of the 2013-14 season to find a leader for their Performance and Medical Department. This role, internationally termed “Performance Director”, architects sports medicine and performance and reports directly to management . We uncovered a great talent at the US Ski and Snowboard Association. The role is now a popular fixture within the NBA and the Cleveland Cavaliers went on to win the NBA championship in 2016.

Philadelphia 76ers – NBA
FIRST NBA MEDICAL PRACTITIONER OVERSEEING ALL TRAINING SESSIONS
The Sixers, looking to reduce player injury and capitalize on player availability undertook a review of other sporting codes from around the world. The Sixers discovered European Soccer had a higher ratio of Doctors and Physios per player, usually with a full time Doctor located at the training ground to oversee all practice sessions. Following this review Sporting Health Group helped the Sixers recruit a highly respected Medical Doctor from a top flight Spanish soccer team to sit within the training centre. The appointment assisted the external medical teams to be able to provide an early diagnosis of injuries and successful treatment plan. Sporting Health Group later went on to provide a Mental Skills Coach to the team, a position that is well established in other sporting codes and prevalent in MLB.
