Qatar is a rapidly growing sovereign state in the Arabian Gulf with a population of 1.5 million.  It is one of the richest countries in the region and is gaining in regional and international influence.  A dynamic nation, with a compelling vision for both the short and long term in the areas of Sport, Health and Education, Qatar’s government is looking to attract the world’s best talent to support the implementation of this vision.  Within this context, the Qatar National Football team has the vision of qualifying on merit for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, ahead of hosting the 2022 World Cup.  In order to try and achieve this, a strong academy programme and a National Sports Medicine Programme for the sport in Qatar have been established. The Aspire Zone is at the heart of this vision, and a high quality Sports Medicine service is widely recognised as being an integral part of the support programme.  Over the past 4 years, Aspetar (Qatar’s Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital – a FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence) has provided Sports Physicians and Sports Medicine support services to the Qatar National Teams.  The leader of this service, Dr Cristiano Eirale, is pursuing new career opportunities within Aspetar, and therefore his replacement is now being recruited.    This opportunity seeks an exceptional individual who is able to drive the Sports Medicine forward in the region, imparting both experience and innovation to the Qatar Football Association and wider community.  The chosen individual will be a specialist in the management of all medical and musculoskeletal issues relevant to the comprehensive management of footballers and enabling them to perform to the best of their ability.   The chosen individual will also be instrumental in both the reactive and pro-active care of National Team Footballers and the overall development of Sports Medicine services for the National Football Teams within the state of Qatar.
